Housing FAQ

Temporary housing in a two-bedroom, two-bathroom apartment located just minutes away from the pediatric hospitals in the Texas Medical Center in Houston, TX and Dell Children’s Medical Center in Austin, TX. All apartments are equipped with full-service kitchens as well as washer and dryer units.

We serve out-of-town families with a child age 18 or younger who is a pre/post solid organ transplant patient at one of the pediatric transplant centers in Houston and Austin. Primary caregivers must accompany child 24/7 and be at least 21 years old. A current copy of a photo ID of all persons 18 years and older is required prior to check-in.

Before a family can be considered, a referral by a Health Care Provider or Social Worker is required.

We serve all families without regard to race, national origin, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disability, economic status or political affiliation.

We believe children need to be surrounded by the love of their family, keeping families together and strong. Providing a sense of normalcy and surrounded by their support system will aide children in their healing process; therefore, we can accommodate families with up to 4 guests + 1 infant.

Yes, all guests age 18 and up must pass a background check prior to admittance and provide a copy of a photo ID prior to check-in. See Occupant Information and Authorization form.

Availability is on a first-come, first-served basis. A maximum of 90 days is approved when the application is

received. If additional stay is required, you must have your social worker contact CTI for an extension.

It is the goal of Children’s Transplant Initiative, to never have to charge anyone for their stay at their “R”Rooms Housing facilities, however, donations are always appreciated. There will be a refundable deposit of $250 to cover any damages to units or property.

  • Housing Application after CTI has received a referral from transplant team social worker.
  • Occupant Information and Authorization form for every person 18 years or older with a copy of a photo ID.
  • Acceptance of Liability Release and Housing Guidelines.

Because treatment is unpredictable, CTI makes every attempt to be as flexible as possible with the families currently residing in our “R”Rooms Housing units. As a result, we are NOT able to confirm accommodations any sooner than 5 business days prior to a family’s anticipated arrival date. Applications may be submitted in advance of this time and dates will be penciled in the calendar. Please check back with CTI one week prior to arrival date for a status update, therefore, all guests must have a backup plan, as all services depend on the availability of housing accommodations.

Covered Parking is available on the property at no charge in those areas specified by the property. Shuttle service is currently unavailable.

All “R”Rooms Housing apartments are provided with towels, linens, cleaning supplies, kitchenware, cooking utensils and other housewares. Families should plan to provide their own food, toiletries and other disposable items. All apartments are equipped with a washer, dryer and dishwasher.

Once approved, arrangements will be made to meet with a CTI representative at the “R”Rooms Housing apartment, where you will be given keys and an overview of Housing Guidelines.
